A synonym is a word that has nearly the same meaning as another word.
Example: happy, joyful, elated ​ ​

An antonym is a word that has the oppososite meaning of another word.
Example: mad, glad

​We will be continuing to work on our comprehension skills. Vocabulary is a key component of how well one understands text. Understanding what synomyms and antonyms are and how they are used in a text will make a huge difference. If students are able to identify different types of words such as synonyms and antonyms meaning will be more clear.

Great Games to practice synonyms. The more practice a student has the faster, one will be able to recall another way to say a word. Synonyms offer a great variety to our vocabulary. As the students progress in their education it is important to have a deep understanding of synonyms and how they are used to increse comprehension. The games range from easy to difficult.

Nightly Reading
The books which we have been working on in school in our book club will be sent home this week. Students must do their required reading, in addition on sticky notes students should list five synonyms and five antonyms that they have found while reading!
